Ozan Özerk
Founder of Gratis
Ozan Özerk founded Gratis in September 2022, as part of Eurotrader Group. Eurotrader Group was also founded by Dr. Ozan Özerk in 2018. Alongside Gratis, Eurotrader Group boasts Eurotrader investment platform for trading in forex, stocks, indices and commodities and Eurocapital, a Prime of Prime liquidity provider with end-to-end solutions and secure offerings.
Ozan Özerk was born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1979 and moved to Norway with his family at a young age. His father, Kamil Özerk is a professor at the Department of Education in the University of Oslo and his mother Meral R. Özerk specialises in children with learning disabilities. She works as a senior advisor at Statped.
Ozan Özerk studied medicine at the University of Oslo from 2000 to 2008. He completed his medical internship at Narvik Hospital.
Ozan Ozerk’s entrepreneurial career started in 2005 with Norsk Ideutvikling, an online media company he co-founded, famous for its social networking site Biip.no. The site was an early version of today’s popular social media platforms and was largely successful in Norway. It was acquired by Egmont and Nettavisen in 2008. Following the acquisition, Dr. Ozan Özerk stayed on until 2010.
After his tenure at Biip.no, Ozan Ozerk worked as a medical doctor until 2015. He held positions as an emergency room doctor in the cities of Narvik, Bærum, and Moss.
Ozan Ozerk made the shift to his current career in fintech in 2015. He consolidated his consolidated his early ventures under OpenPayd in 2018, which today is a well-known brand in the fintech industry, offering Banking as a Service (BaaS) solutions. OpenPayd was founded and is still headquartered in London, now with offices in Bulgaria, Turkey, Malta, Belgium and the USA.
Alongside Openpayd, European Merchant Bank (EMBank), Ozan SuperApp and Eurotrader Group are some other major financial institutions founded by Dr. Ozan Ozerk. Gratis was launched in 2022 as an initative of the Eurotrader Group.
Ozan Ozerk frequently shares his thoughts and projections on the future of fintech through interviews and opinion-pieces. He has a strong standpoint on issues regarding financial inclusion and equality, often speaking and writing on these topics.
Ozan Ozerk is also an official member of the Forbes Financial Council since 2021.
